As the new year begins, we wanted to update you on our progress of the past year and where we see the developments of the past year. Despite the continued macroeconomic challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 was a pivotal year for PRT – Our UAS fleet expanded to include five unique aircraft, creating products that match the high-end requirements of commercial entities and various government agencies. Operationally, PRT opened its main UK manufacturing site based in Norfolk (UK) and has achieved ISO 9001 certification. The acquisition of Tetra Drones has further expanded our team and extended our facilities to encompass a UK-based R&D base. This expansion has opened opportunities for us to work with existing clients on a broad base of new opportunities.
The fundamental trends that continue to underpin and shape the PRT strategy:
Our Transition into Unmanned and Manned Aerospace.
In 2019, we searched globally to find a drone that could carry more than 10lbs of weight and have redundant onboard electrical reserve to meet the power consumption of our sensors. At the same time, several well-established vendors in the mapping and radar industry launched high value LiDAR (a Radar detection system that uses light from a laser) and ultra-HD aerial camera platforms. These sensor vendors were having the exact same UAS weight and power issue. Identifying that our needs were not exclusive, we made the decision to design and develop our own drone – the X1.
From the initial X1 concept, we then embarked to design, build, and test a series of UAS that could carry the weight of meaningful sensors and payloads for various applications. With our further understanding of large UAS posing a greater complexity to operate manually, we thought it prudent to introduce fully autonomous functionality as a standard feature to all our platforms. This was a feature to not only assist pilots in situations where they could see the drone and were required to operate an expensive sensor, but to add a capability for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). This feature within the aircraft and its control station contains intelligence to enable unmanned flight as well as mission-critical remote sensor or delivery operations over great distance. The ultimate focus we adopted was to provide ease of operation for key users from defense, civil emergency, and industry by having them use smart technology fusion that resulted in a simple to use operational choice.
In 2021, we executed on our strategy and drove to completion a UAS portfolio that we believe is currently unrivalled in autonomy and payload capability than other vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) UAS companies that we have identified. This will allow PRT to be well-positioned for growth and success in both the near and long-term. In terms of our reputation, we are now being recognized as a business that builds to a ‘best-of-breed’ standard, as opposed to the traditional drone business model of building to a price. We believe this focus on ultimate capability has paid off and is now attracting the right kind of attention and clientele to the company. This is demonstrated by our ongoing discussions with various US Government agencies who have engaged with PRT in many conversations on future applications. As a result of this, PRT was requested to submit a proposal for supply of heavy-lift UAS’s to the U.S. Department of Defense.
PRT’s objective as a UAS company that targets those with large budgets who require flight simplicity, heavy duty capabilities and intelligence, we were delighted when the Biden administration announced a $753 Billion budget spend for Fiscal Year 2022 for Defense and National Security, with $715 Billion earmarked for the DoD.
After consultation with the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) last September we made the decision to bring forward a plan to start work on the upcoming PRT XMR (Medevac & Resupply). This UAS is designed to transport up to 330lbs of weight and up to 60 miles of flight range. The DIU is the only Department of Defense organization focused exclusively on fielding and scaling commercial technology across the U.S. military to help solve critical problems.
ADS Inc., a military equipment supplier, will exhibit our technologies through procurement assessments at the Sea Air Space Exposition in Maryland from April 4-6, 2022. We believe that the PRT XMR will be popular with all branches of military, and we envision it becoming an iconic platform within the UAS fraternity.
Shaping our portfolio, focusing on the near-term and growing our addressable market.
Throughout 2021, it was becoming evident through the interest shown on our UAS capability that a greater focus was required on our unmanned portfolio to meet the needs of our target markets and customers – this has made it an absolute necessity for us to further innovate our platforms, make strategic investments, and grow our addressable market both organically and inorganically.
We have therefore taken the interim decision to halt further resource and spend on our WiTi (Wireless Threat Indication) system. Our SS1 Shoe Scanner will go forward under a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA). All non-aerospace products in our portfolio that are in a state of test or development, government funded and not commercially available will from now reside within an internal unit called ‘PRT Labs’. We believe that the creation of this subdivision is essential to maintain clarity not just internally, but also to allow our customers and shareholders to define exactly what is for sale, what can be ordered today, and what is still in product development.
This allows us to focus our team on activities and spending that will keep us on the most efficient path to both revenue generation and growing the brand within the DoD, National Security, and Industrial-UAS sectors. To this end, we plan to hire seasoned sales professionals to concentrate on UAS sales. We have also hired a marketing lead that has worked on several marketing and brand awareness campaigns for the likes of Apple and Siemens.
In addition to investing in the development of our team, the PRT UK facility in Norfolk (UK) will become a low-rate initial production (LRIP) facility and has its own 60-acre flying site. This facility will be the model for our Plymouth MA facility to transition the manufacturing of UAS production to the US. We have already begun to re-outfit the space in Plymouth to accommodate the production equipment and manufacturing operation.
PRT has over the past several months been chosen for critical projects in Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) programs with the UK Government to assess safety and viability of UAS alongside the use of them as police helicopter replacement in the UK. This has also now attracted key vendors such as Honeywell and Collins Aerospace to work with PRT on innovation test cases on the latest unmanned technologies.
The development of AI-enabled computer vision, machine learning and perceptive autonomy technologies remain critical to advances in unmanned aviation. It is our plan, with appropriate funding in 2022, to expand our team and partnerships to realize new AI capabilities, with a roadmap for continued enhancements into the future. These capabilities address the operating requirements for contested environments where radio frequencies and GPS signals could be blocked by simple frequency congestion or deliberate jamming. This segment of the UAS business will also be critical in laying the foundation and producing the framework for the ultimate industry vision of widespread use UAS commercial delivery capabilities. We believe that establishing an early leadership role in this significantly important area of unmanned technology will be an essential part of our future value and growth.
Aerospace Component Business
In 2019, we acquired the assets of Aerowave Inc. Aerowave was founded in 1985 by Theodore “Ted” Kozul for the purpose of manufacturing high quality millimeter-wave components for sensors and radar. Prior to starting Aerowave, Mr. Kozul was the founder and principal owner of Baytron Company, one of the world’s earliest millimeter-wave component companies. These two companies represent over 50
years of continuous service and support of the millimeter-wave industry. Since that time, and with the lack of a traditional sales push due to the pandemic, PRT have seen an increase in small component revenues year on year. Within this increase, we are now supplying profitable product on a repeat order basis to several clients with well-known names like Boeing, NASA Jet Propulsion Labs (JPL), Smithsonian Astrophysics and Northrup Grumman. We believe that our aerospace component business dovetails perfectly with the overall sensors and unmanned technologies mission of PRT.
Traction and Future Focus
Our unique differentiator from many UAS companies was that we created UAS technology designed primarily with complete autonomy, to operate at extreme BVLOS distances from the pilot. Technologies that can fly solo, or together as part of a swarm, to perform a variety of missions in challenging environments.
We are also delighted to announce that we have now designed our own fixed wing airframes that will be constructed entirely from lightweight carbon composite materials, making them very highly efficient. These airframes could create a secondary standalone market for PRT, as they are lighter and cost effective. We believe that this step also defines PRT as a company that is a true aerospace technology vendor, and not simply a drone company.
We believe future demand for mission specific UAS that can operate without the need for constant data radio communication will be exponential. We demonstrated this capability with great success with the United Nations last year. This was a small UAS performing missions daily in Somalia. Eventually, we envisage this capability developing to such a level through computer-vision, fused with what is known in general aviation as Dead Reckoning (DR) calculations, which is the process of calculating a position, especially at sea, by calculating the direction and distance travelled rather than by using landmarks or astronomical observations. As a result, GPS will be less of a dependent component, and we believe will further give our defense agencies an advantage in the UAS battlespace.
Our Difference
From what we have observed, most drone companies focus on imitation rather than innovation. Many also have attached themselves to the consumer home delivery segment or making a US-version of Chinese technology. Unlike most of the companies that chase anything and everything to do with those segments, we know full well then and still uphold that until an effective UTM system is developed, deployed, and then adopted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for mainstream operations, drone delivery in the U.S. will remain the preserve of two markets – small, government-funded remote projects, or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) using systems to deliver vaccines and medications in places like Africa.
We have learned that Government, Military and Commercial operators are looking for the next generation of UAS capable of carrying much more than a camera or a mapping sensor. They now want UAS with higher maximum take-off weight (MTOW). They want to operate at BVLOS distances over ten times the capability of current offerings. They want hybrid fuel options, and they want unmanned avionics and collision avoidance technologies to mimic those of manned aircraft. That is what separates PRT from others – we are aiming for market leadership through offering intelligent, heavy-duty UAS for national security, alongside securing contracts with oil and gas companies for pipeline monitoring and protection. Our objective is to set new standards for professional unmanned autonomy and that has been recognized via orders from agencies that have been placed for our most advanced XV- L platforms in the past two weeks. We must also ask shareholders to remain patient on news detail regarding orders of our fixed wing aircraft. We are in most cases under strict non-Disclosure in our contracts. We may be able to issue news, but not always with exact information on value or end user.
Marketing and Brand Presence
Finally, to sure-up the relevance and focus of the company, our website and branding will be refreshed at the end of Q1 2022. Going forward, we will be adopting our abbreviated web name ‘PLYROTECH’. Further, it is our duty to ensure that every effort within the company is aligned with our mission going forward. To this end, we will be adding resources and where required realigning roles within the company in the coming weeks and months to drive a remarkable breakout year for 2022. As always, we thank our shareholders and customers who recognize the value in what PLYROTECH is evolving into and further understand the frugality in which we have operated during the market downturn to stave off dilution. Going forward 2022 will be about growth and revenue. Your confidence in our team, our strategy, and our future, is what fuels us and what drives us towards our goals. We look forward with great excitement to capitalize on the multiple opportunities that lie ahead to deliver true value to our shareholders.
We look forward to updating you in the coming months.

“From the outset, the differentiator of the PRT UAS operation was to create a product portfolio designed and engineered for autonomous and BVLOS flight as the primary function, while having a fully manual piloting capability as a secondary function” stated Ben Pickard, VP of UAS Development at PRT. “Our UAS platforms are currently being used in demanding BVLOS missions with critical value humanitarian and civilian missions which include the UN, Oil & Gas and Environmental agencies. We are honoured to be supplying products and services into this program and further to share any data from operational deployments that will assist not only the CAA in the UK, but also the FAA in the United States” concluded Pickard.
“Being chosen by Cranfield University to be the supplier of UAS and training services for this globally recognized program is a positive endorsement of the Company and its products,” stated Carl Cagliarini, Chief Strategy Officer of PRT. “The requirement for Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) capabilities to ensure flight safety systems, electronic redundancy and constant communication must be rigorously tested if drone technologies are ever to be deployed over urban environments for commercial operations. This program takes our proven technologies to a higher level by assessing UAS capabilities towards the goal of introducing drones into non-segregated airspace. This will require drones to sense, communicate and work with manned aircraft across general aviation and military operations” concluded Cagliarini.

The project will further review market validation/value of identified segments as well as take advantage of critical feedback to further evolve drone swarming capabilities. Plymouth Rock Technologies will be supplying a fleet of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) which will autonomously operate together to form a ‘swarm’.
“Drone swarms are, in every sense, transformational technology”, stated Carl Cagliarini, Chief Strategy Officer of PRT. “They can substitute humans in dangerous or hostile environments, from the front line of a warzone, through to the detection of commercial gases. In sufficient numbers, they can collect information from multiple locations and directions, integrating it to form insights not otherwise possible. That information can inform decision makers who cannot enter the environment nor capture information from multiple angles and perspectives.”
“We are delighted to be selected to undertake this task. Drone swarming capabilities have been used in theme park light shows, where the drone intelligence is limited to a simple LED light and a set manoeuvre. This effort differs greatly by the fact that this is a drone swarm collecting and compiling data through a series of sensors and utilizing AI to turn the data collected into actionable intelligence” stated Dana Wheeler, President & CEO of PRT.
